ARIZONADATE: AUGUST 31, 2016

Governor Ducey has ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, August 31, in honor of Navajo Nation Police Officer Leander Frank.


Officer Frank was on duty when he was killed in a traffic accident. Officer Frank is survived by his wife, a fellow Navajo Nation Police Officer and their four children. The Governor will again order flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff on the day of his interment. Arrangements are still pending and will be communicated as soon as possible.


Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags to fly half-staff at the State Capitol on Friday, Aug. 19, the day of Dunn's funeral.

PIERRE, S.D. – Former state legislator Jim Dunn of Lead passed away on Aug. 11, 2016. Dunn, 89, served as a state representative from 1971 – 73 and as a state senator from 1973 – 2001. He was assistant majority leader from 1989 – 92 and 1995 – 98, assistant minority leader from 1993 – 94, and senior assistant majority leader from 1999 – 2000.​ Dunn’s 30 years of legislative service makes him the longest-serving legislator in South Dakota history, a distinction he shares with four others.

PENNSYLVANIADATE: AUGUST 18 - 23, 2016
Governor Tom Wolf has ordered all commonwealth flags on the Capitol Complex and at all commonwealth facilities in Adams County to fly at half-staff to honor Bryan Westfall.  Bryan Westfall, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employee, died on Thursday, August 18, 2016, while performing his job duties.

Flags shall be lowered to half-staff and remain lowered until sunset on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.


HAWAII
DATE: AUGUST 18 - 22, 2016
Honolulu - At the direction of Gov. David Ige, the United States flag and the Hawai'i state flag will be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and at all state offices, agencies and the Hawai'i National Guard in the State of Hawai'i, from Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 until sunset on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016 in honor of the late Hawai'i Congressman and former Hawai'i State Representative K. Mark Takai.

Rep. Takai will lie in state in the Hawai'i State Capitol Rotunda on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 19 and a private interment is scheduled for Aug. 22.  Congressman Takai dedicated his life to public service with 18 years in the Hawai'i National Guard and a 20-year tenure in the Hawai'i House of Representatives before he served in the U.S. House of Representatives. "Mark humbly and effectively served the people of Hawai'i. In the often tumultuous world of politics, he was a shining example of what it means to be a public servant," said Gov. Ige.

Rep. Takai died on July 20, 2016 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 49 years old.

COLORADO

DENVER - Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 - Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, in honor of Navy ensign John Charles England.  England, a Pearl Harbor hero and Medal of Honor recipient, was officially classified as among the unknown who died aboard the USS Oklahoma on Dec. 7, 1941. England's remains were positively identified this year after nearly 70 years in an unmarked mass grave in Hawaii.

England will be buried with full military honors on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. in Colorado Springs, in a plot beside his parents, at 1005 S. Hancock Ave. Services will be followed by a themed reception, with reenactors from the Evergreen Cemetery Benevolent Society, Colorado WWII Living Historians and autos from the Pikes Peak Chapter Veteran Motor Car Club of America.

With the passing of State Representative Harold J. "Jack" Peterman yesterday, Governor Markell has ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff beginning the morning of Friday, August 12 as a mark of respect for Representative Peterman and his service to Delaware. Representative Peterman served in the Delaware House since 2010, representing the Milford and Kent County area. During his time in the legislature, Representative Peterman served as a member of the Agriculture, Housing & Community Affairs, Natural Resources and Veterans Affairs committees. Prior to his election as state representative, Representative Peterman served as a Kent County Levy Court Commissioner and President.

Services for Rep. Peterman will be held on Thursday, August 18, therefore flags should be returned to full staff the end of that day.

Harold "Don" Whipple, 33, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employee, died after being involved in a severe motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 while performing his job duties. Flags shall be lowered to half-staff and remain lowered until sunset on Monday, August 15, 2016.  All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.

IOWADATE: AUGUST 8, 2016
Des Moines - Gov. Terry Branstad has ordered all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, August 8, 2016, to honor West Des Moines Police Officer Shawn Miller, who was killed in the line of duty in the late afternoon on August 3, 2016. Officer Miller will be laid to rest on Monday, August 8, 2016.

The governor's directive applies to all U.S. and state flags under the control of the state. Flags will be at half-staff on the state Capitol building and on flag displays in the Capitol complex, and upon all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.

Governor Pat McCrory ordered all North Carolina state flags to be lowered to half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, July 27 for National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. The North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs estimates that 149,754 North Carolina citizens served in Korea between 1950 and 1953.  

"July 27 is a day to honor the sacrifices made by 150,000 North Carolinians who bravely fought for the right of self-determination for our Korean allies from 1950-1953. Sadly, 788 North Carolinians lost their lives. May we always remember their service, self-sacrifice and grit that carried our nation during a trying time," said Governor McCrory.

ARKANSAS

Governor Asa Hutchinson has ordered the United States flag and the state flag of Arkansas to be lowered to half-staff in tribute to the memory and honor of District 9 Representative Sheilla Lampkin. Frankfort, Ky. (June 9, 2016) - Gov. Bevin has directed that Kentucky's state flags be flown at half-staff on Friday, June 10, as a mark of respect for Muhammad Ali, Kentucky's native son. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. ET at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Ky. Ali will be buried in an exclusive area of the historic Cave Hill Cemetery.  U.S. flags should remain flying at full staff in accordance with official U.S Flag Code.

Indianapolis - Governor Mike Pence today directed flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff beginning immediately for West Point Cadet and Valparaiso native Mitchell Alexander Winey after he was killed in a Cadet Troop Leader Training at Ft. Lowdon Heller.  Heller, of Ideal, died on Saturday at age 92.  Heller served as a member of the state House of Representatives from 1957 to 1961.  His funeral is Wednesday.
